Scotton Scorchers Grand Christmas Raffle!!

Dont forget to purchase your tickets for the Grand Christmas Draw, see your coach for details, and please bring sold ticket stubs, money and unsold tickets back on Saturday the 10th December.

The draw will take place at Percy Field Pavilion on Saturday 17th December at approximately 10.15am, which will also be your last chance to buy any tickets.

Prizes Include, A meal to the value of £100 at the General Tarleton (thanks to Glen Turnbull), a meal to the value of £30 at the Dam Yankee (Thanks to Mick Tryfick), plus many other prizes. There is also a signed football for the child who sells the most tickets and a team prize too. Good luck everyone!!!!

Your Football Club Needs You!! - Saturday 5th November

We have a very busy day lined up on Saturday the 5th November, and we really need your support. All the money we raise goes back in to the football club, kit and equipment, hire of pitches, goals, and of course our Pavilion.

Please look out for e mails and requests from your coaches for support.

Morrisons Bag Packing

In the morning it's football as usual, then from noon we need all our players to help with bag packing at Morrisons Boroughbridge, you will be asked to give just an hour or so of your time and if we all help can raise significant funds for the club. Please let your coaches know the time you can start and finish.

Scotton Bonfire
The Scorchers are providing a BBQ at the event please e mail mikeandjanec@googlemail.com if you can help. We will need a team there from about 5pm, serving food from 6pm, bonfire lit at 6.30pm with Fireworks from 7pm.
Even if you cant help, come along and support the Cricket Club and The Scorchers. Percy Field car park will be open, please park there and walk up as there is no parking at the Cricket Club on bonfire night.

Work starts again on the Pavilion this week, we're getting closer!!!!!!

SCORCHERS BEATEN IN THRILLER

On another brilliant sunday afternoon the gallant Scorchers JFC Cricket XI(XII) were pipped again by the all conquering Scotton CC.
Scotton CC posted a relatively small total of 109 runs and Scotton JFC were cruising towards the required runs but suddenly they ran out of overs (not batsmen!) and Scotton CC had won by 10 or 12 runs.
So even though they were denied again, all players and spectators enjoyed the day and raised a small amount of cash for both clubs.
A big thankyou to Scotton CC for hosting the game and a big thankyou to all who supported the day and helped out.
We will have to beat them at football now as the clubs competition scores stand at 2-0 to the men in white!!!

This sunday 4 september Scotton JFC coaches/parents/carers/friends take on Scotton cc at scotton cricket club,the game will commence at 14.00.
Please come along to support and enjoy a great afternoon, there will be a bar,bbq,bouncy castle and raffle.
If you haven't already shown an interest in playing then please let Andy Black know.
The more the merrier.
Can all players who have already confirmed their interest please turn up for 12.30 for set up and 'WARM UP?!'
If you don't fancy playing but could lend a hand for half an hour(or more) please come along.
Any raffle prizes will be most welcome for sunday, if you cannot attend please give to your lead coach on saturday morning.

2011/2012 Season Starts Here!!!!

The Scorchers start back in training on Saturday 20th August at 10.30am for all squads at Percy Field, with training finishing around 12 noon.

On the 27th August it's the same again.

On the 3rd September, the girls U10 and development squad, along with U6, U7 and U8 boys will train at the Village hall pitch from 9.30.

The u11,u10 and U9 boys will train at 9am at Percy Field and the U12, U14 and u15 girls will all train at 10.30am at Percy Field.

Matches for some squads commence on the 10th September and your coach will be in touch with pitch and fixture plans before this date.

Squads will be allocated 'home training pitches' which will be theIr usual training venues, but this will not be available until all fixtures are provided from the leagues we play in. Thanks

Fun Day Important Information

We are looking forward to hosting the end-of-season fun day and prize giving on this coming Sunday (22nd May). There are a few things that I thought it would be useful to summarise for you. If you have any questions then please feel free to contact me or your coach for further details.

The timetable for the day is as follows:

10-10.30 Arrive at Percy Fields

11.00 Fun Day games start

12.00 Light refreshments available from the SS bar as the games continue

1.00 BBQ

2.00 - 3.00 Presentation of awards to all squads

3.00 Bar opens for afternoon when there will be games, music, raffles, bouncy castle and penalty shoot outs

Everyone should have been allocated to a “team”. These should have been communicated to you by your coach. If you are unsure then please speak to the coach or contact me and I will advise you of which team your child has been allocated. Please feel free to dress up in your team colours, the more outrageous the better (Brazil from last year and England the previous year will take some beating!), face painting is encouraged, as are whistles, air horns, rattles and anything else that adds to the carnival atmosphere!

There will be plenty of entertainment in addition to the fun day games, this includes a bouncy castle (£2 per child for all day use) which is available all day, the BBQ, raffle, kids and adults penalty shoot out tournaments plus, of course, refreshments.

Last year was a great success, not least because of the fantastic weather, and we will be hoping for the same this year. With that in mind can you please make sure that you bring sun cream for the kids, we will be providing refreshments but extra water would never be a bad idea. We also recommend that you bring picnic chairs as we do not have any chairs available and if you want to bring a small gazebo then that will also be ok assuming that we do not have too many! We may of course not be so lucky and get similar weather to that which we had for the U9’s tournament last Sunday, so warmer jackets etc. might also be the order of the day L.

There is a lot of parking available at Percy Fields but we are expecting lots of people to attend and therefore could you please consider car sharing if possible and when you do arrive please park where indicated and park as courteously as possible. If you are just dropping off then please take the turn up to Kids at Heart to drop off there as the car park can get blocked if several cars are exiting while others are arriving.

Those that have been to Percy Fields will know that the pavilion building has been completed. There is still work to do on the inside but Mike Collier will be on hand to show parents what we have done so far and what we need to do to get it finished.

IMPORTANT - As previously notified, we will be collecting registration forms for those that want to register next season. As you will be aware we are trying to ensure that the club can cope with the demand that we have seen over the last year and put plans in place over the summer to ensure that we have the right numbers in each squad with enough coaches to coach and complete registrations with the various leagues and governing bodies. It is therefore VITAL that you re-register by the fun day to guarantee your child’s place for next season

Finally, could all those who took part in the fun run and collected sponsorship please either give this to you coach or bring it to the fun day next week.

Big thanks to all children and parents who came along for what is always a great morning at the Fun Run. The weather stayed dry and we all made it round - some definitely faster than others.

Now for the important bit and the reason we do it!

All those who ran put in a great effort so you all deserve all your sponsers who promised you money to dig deep for a job well done. Collect your donations in over the next couple of weeks and hand to your coach or put in an envelope and drop in the sponsorship drop-box that will be available on fun day.

Thanks again - hope you all had a fun rest of your Sunday - you deserve it!

2011/2012 REGISTRATION FORMS

Next season's planning has already started - and with it comes plans to review numbers of players and look at the possibilities of increasing the number of games - especially for the boys.

In order to plan we need a clear understanding of numbers for next year. If registrations are low, we cannot plan to enter extra teams in to league commitments. League commitments have to be made and paid for with the leagues and FA by the end of June.

That said, EVERY existing registered child is GUARANTEED a place next season if they get their registration form and cheques in before or on Funday (22nd May).

Forms received later than this or at the start of next season will not be guaranteed a place as we may not have been able to confirm (additional) teams at particular age groups.

The club will then assess these applications; taking into account criteria such as age bracket, location, siblings, history with team, application to the club, training and most importantly whether we have the full facilities (including league matches) to accommodate all players.

Registration forms attached below, please complete and return to the address provided on the form asap.

The fun day does not happen without a lot of work being put in by the committee and coaches. Any help that any parents can offer, with the bar, the food, raffle prizes, etc. then this would be very welcome. If you are able to offer any assistance then please can you let me know asap.

TEAM COLOURS
Most important thing to bring colour is to deck the children out as brightly in their International team colour as possible. So Brazil is yellow top, face paints, samba maraca's etc - you get the idea.

Pavilion - The Time Has Come!!!

Final Fundraising Push Starts Here!!!

As we get ready to complete the Pavilion we need an extra big push
from all of you to help see the Pavilion finished and open and become
a great asset to the club.

One way you can help is by asking at your
place of work (or your own company) if they can sponsor the Pavilion.
It could be for 1 year or more.

So we are auctioning the name of the Pavilion and ground!!! to the
highest bidder with the announcement being made at the Opening Ceremony in August/September 2011.

So come on you are a competetive lot, to enter a bid simply e mail
mikeandjanec@googlemail.com. The bid will go on to this web site
and will be updated on a regular basis.

The first bid is already in from Jamie Bird of Pavescape - £250!! for one year sponsorship(For all your paving, driveway and building needs ring 01423862100 or Mob 07791069746.

All bidders will get company publicity on the web site so when you bid
tell us what the company does etc.

The winning bidder will then have the Pavilion and pitch named after
it on all correspondence to other clubs and on the web site.

So as it stands it's directions to the Pavescape pitches at Percy Field Scotton
Lingerfield, this will go in e mails to teams across North Yorkshire
from Scarborogh to Selby, Ilkley to Ripon and locally to Harrogate, Knaresborough and
local villages. There will also be A boards on training and match days
advertising the company, and a prominent sign in the pavilion too.

Hot off the press- Scorchers have just signed up Stray FM to have one of their team running with our bed at the bed race, so.......

BAGPACKING - SATURDAY 5TH FEBRUARY 2011

Players/Parents,
Can you spare 45mins or so on the above date???
Our first Bag Packing of the season will be held at MORRISON'S, BOROUGHBRIDGE on Saturday 5th February 2011 - 12pm til 5pm.
These fundraising events are important and can generate much needed funds towards events like Fun Day, Christmas Parties aswell as help with long-term projects like the Pavilion!
Please could you give your names to your coaches this weekend (and preferred time) if you can help the club - just 45minutes or so is all we ask???
The more tills we can cover, the more we can generate???
If you do attend - there will be a free swimming session on Sunday 13th Feb 5.30 to 6.30pm!

Oh No Not More Snow!!!!

Well this has got to be the worst run of bad weather we have had since the club was formed, but hopefully looking ahead it just might be warming up!!!

Over the last few weeks we have tried to book indoor facilities but without success but will try again if needs be.

The Committee will however be discussing extending our season with the aim of catching up games additional friendlies and a tournament or two!! Watch this Space!!!!

Saturday 18th December - Training and matches cancelled

As a result of the pitches being frozen and the temperature expected not to get above 0 for the whole weekend all training and any arranged fixtures have been cancelled for this weekend.

The Christmas parties planned for Saturday afternoon will go ahead as planned

Please also note that the bag packing planned for Monday at Asda has been postponed until the new year.

The Club has arranged TWO Christmas Parties for the players this year - both of which take place on SATURDAY 18TH DECEMBER 2010.

Scotton Village Hall 4pm - 6pm (Up to U11s)
This party is for all players (boys & girls)in squads upto & including Under 11s.
There will be disco/karaoke & fancy dress optional!
It is hoped that parents will help with by bringing some food (savoury or sweet) and players will recieve a 'gift'.
This party can only go ahead if there are sufficient numbers - an ideal chance for players to meet their teammates prior to the Christmas Break!

Parents Meeting and Training arrangements for Saturday 30th October

As outlined in the October news letter, the committee of Scotton Scorchers will be holding a parents meeting at the village hall in Scotton starting at 10.15am. This is to enable the committee to communicate the plans for the season and to give parents the opportunity to ask any questions that they have about the running of the club.

In order to facilitate the parents meeting, all training sessions will be starting and finishing at the same time next week as follows:

• All the girls squads will be at Percy Fields from 9.45 to 11.15am
• All the boys squads will be at the Village Hall pitches, also from 9.45 to 11.15am

We hope that you will make every effort to attend the parents meeting, particularly the parents of children who are new to the Scorchers.

"Me too" funding for Football Related Fees

The Scorchers have been contacted by Jane Davies who is the Extended Services Cluster Co-ordinator at Aspin Park Community Primary School. Jane runs a scheme which is designed to help with the costs associated with out of school activities, including club activities such as those run by Scotton Scorchers.

As we are an FA accredited club and have the appropriate checks in place Jane has confirmed that children attending training with the Scorchers may be eligible for support with the associated costs of their children participating in football training.

Me Too is designed to provide access to out of school activities and is available to families whose children receive free school meals, are 'looked after' OR are 'economically disadvantaged' due to another criteria and referred to the scheme by a professional (eg teacher, parent support advisor).

Any support that is provided is currently available for this year only (2010/11) and is available to all school age children towards the cost of fees, equipment or travel.

CURRY NIGHTS ARE BACK!!!!

They are back!!!
We are pleased to announce dates for Curry Nights - where we can all go for a nice meal, free glass of wine!!!
Some of the Curry Nights were well attended last season - and it would be nice if we can do that again this season - showing our support to one of the Club Sponsors.
Everyone is welcome - and gives parents the chance to meet the Coaches & Committee, ask questions about the Club, Pavillion, etc.

GOALKEEPER COACHING SESSION - FRI 24TH SEPT 10

The Club was pleased and proud to welcome Gary Hindle (from North Riding County FA) to Percy Fields last Friday.
The session was well attended (12 players in all) with a range of squads, both boys & girls, being represented.
Gary gave a wonderful session, with lots of new ideas for warm-ups and what to do on match days - with everyone closely listening and watching his demonstrations.
It was very fulfilling for all players that attended - and we were very lucky to have such a session with a qualified, experienced GK Coach. Gary even explained some drills he showed us have been used by Premier League clubs & England!!!!
After the session Gary said " It's great to see both boys and girls wanting to be goalkeepers, and training together, I hope to be able to come along again soon and do further GK and Outfield sessions"
A massive thanks to Gary on behalf of the attendees and the Club for braving the bad weather and coming across from Scarborough to give such a great session!
Hopefully we may see him back in the not too distant future??

On sunday the sun shone and a collection of parents and coaches had a great afternoon at scotton cricket club. Unfortunately the scorchers representative side lost (on the second to last ball) to scotton cricket club but they didn't go down without a fight!
Scorchers batted first and scored a very respectable 121 runs with Mike Baker carrying his bat after a very elegant innings.
Darren 'Tuffers' Navier then bowled magnificently ably assisted by Ian Pollock, Alex and others unfortunately Captain Black didn't take the neccesary catches and let his bowlers down.
Jamie Bird took an absolute corker of a catch (off his own bowling!),the standard of cricket all round was generally good but Scotton CC knocked the winning runs off Eddie's bowling to wrap up a magnificent day.
Well done to all players and a HUGE thankyou to all who helped out on the day and to all who came along and supported the day, it was great to see so many smiling faces on the day.
Lets hope the Scorchers can equal the scores when they take on the cricketers at football.

SCORCHERS CRICKET MATCH This Sunday 12 Sept

Parents/Carers and Coaches, this sunday sees Scotton Scorchers JFC play Scotton CC in a fundraising cricket match at Scotton cricket pitch.
Play will commence at 1pm. If there are any parents/carers who would like to play please contact either Mark Bedford or Andy Black to let them know.
We are not short of players but would like to see some more parents 'roped in'/play!
There are also lots of other positions to help out with on the day (BBQ/Raffle Tickets/Bouncy Castle attendants)so please let us know if you can help in anyway.
Just 5 minutes of your time would be of great help, the more the merrier!
More raffle prizes would be helpful too if anybody has anything they could donate please.
At the very least it would be great to see as many faces as possible on sunday to cheer/jeer on the players and hopefully have a great day.
Please come along and enjoy some cricket,bar,bbq and bouncy castle and ultimately raise some much needed funds to help with the running of the club.

Scotton Scorchers Fantasy League

The Scotton Scorchers are running a fantasy league this season in order to raise funds for the club, and to create a bit of competition and fun between the parents. The format of the league will be that teams will play each other each week to gain points in the league which will run until the end of the season.

The fantasy league is run by fantasy.premierleague.com and is free to enter on this site. However from a fund raising perspective we would like every entrant to pay £5 for the season. 50% of the entry fees will be donated to the club and the other 50% will be offered in prizes. The exact split of the prize fund will depend on numbers of entrants but we will probably have a prize for the winner and runner up, and a small prize for the team finishing in last place (to keep a bit of interest for the teams that are "less successful").

If you wish to enter then please create your team at http://fantasy.premierleague.com. Entering a team is also a commitment to pay the £5 entry fee which I will collect in due course. If you are under 18 then you will require full permission from your parents to enter, using your parents e-mail address during the entry process. You have until 18th September to enter your team.

Once you have created your team, click on the 'Leagues' link you can find on the right of the page. Now enter the code [which has been e-mailed to all parents or can be obtained from me if you e-mail me at richard.topham1@tiscali.co.uk] to join the private league.

U12 Girls Win The Cup!!!

The U12 Girls won the Harrogate and District Cup by beating Wetherby 3-1 at the finals at Ripon on Saturday.

We came into the game having already beaten the teams currently in second and third in the league and we would now have to beat the team in fourth to complete the most difficult of routes to the trophy. But after our semi-final win over Knaresborough we were confident and planned to try and play with energy and passion from the off.

Unfortunately it was not to be and Wetherby started the strongest with our defensive partnerts of Jess and Molly having to work hard to contain a determined Wetherby side. Sam was well protected in goal however and Scotton started to get into their stride and win more and more possession. It wasn't until mid way through the first half when Ella swung in one of her now trade mark corners which Wetherby failed to clear that our chance came. Chloe picked up the ball and fired into the bottom corner with her left foot (!) and put us one up.

A free kick for hand ball just inside the Wetherby half gave Emily a chance to fire in a rocket of a dead ball shot which was deflected agonisingly wide by Chloe and soon after Chloe managed to finish the best move of the match, combining passes through midfield and to both strikers, with a left foot drive which unfortunately hit the bar.

Chances for Emily and Chloe were few and far between and the work rate was down on past weeks which meant that Wetherby enjoyed some good spells and our midfielder's, Maddie and Ella plus Steph who had come on for Molly, continued to have to work very hard to contain them.

The team talk at half time was one that demanded more energy and concentration but to continue to press forward and take our chances. Georgina replaced Steph to give us more height at the back and Scotton began to take some control. Georgina's long throws caused Wetherby some problems and we won an increasing number of corners. It was again from one of these corners that Scotton got their second goal. Once again Ella swung it in towards the keeper who parried the ball as far as Emily, whose shot was blocked and Chloe was there to stab the re-bound home, 2-0 with 10 minutes to go.

Lowenna came on to replace Maddie who had worked so hard in midfield and Jess pushed up to replace Maddie while Lowenna slotted into defence where she chased and harried the Wetherby strikers who were now pushing forward to find a way back into the game.

Wetherby caught us napping from a quick throw and with a slick move they created a chance and shot from 5 yards which gave Sam no chance. Sam was picking the ball out of the net having not touched the ball in the rest of the second half. Steph came back on to help out at the back and Scotton pushed on to make the game secure.

The game was secured with 5 minutes to go when Chloe won the ball from a short Wetherby goal kick. She quickly got the ball under control and looped the ball into the empty net from 15 yards out. The relief was palpable and the celebrations showed that the girls got the real sense that they had done it.

The final whistle took an age but it finally came and the celebrations started. Player of the match was a difficult choice. Chloe takes a lot of credit for her superb hat-trick but the award was shared between Ella, who was picked out by the league secretary for being the outstanding player for all her hard work, great crosses and her corners that were again frighteningly accurate, and Jess who once again was solid at the back and kept her focus and concentration throughout the game

Scotton were awarded the trophy by the League Secretary and each player proudly collected their winners medal to add to the runners up medal that they won last year.

Each and every player in the squad can be proud of the contribution that they made to this difficult run to the final and the trophy at the end was very much deserved.

Thanks to Wetherby for a game played in great spirit and to Ripon for hosting the finals. Thanks also go to Eddie Brown Coaches for providing the transport to and from the game and to Zolsha Restaurant who have been our shirt sponsor all season and have been very supportive of the squad.

2010/11 Club Registrations Discount

The committee has agreed that we will again offer a discount on the club registration fees to all players who register and pay in full for next season on or before the fun day on 23rd May 2010. It has also been agree that the annual fees will again remain the same as they were this season. This means that registration will be £75 for the first child and £60 for subsequent children from the same household (or £85 and £70 respectively if paid after 23rd May) for the 2010/11 season.

The option of splitting payment will also be available, however this will be on condition that two cheques are provided for the full amount at time of registration, one cheque for £42.50 (or £77.50 if two children are being registered) dated on the day of registration and one for £42.50 (or £77.50) dated 01/01/2011.

I enclose a copy of the registration form which should be printed, completed in full and returned to your coach or handed in at the fun day on 23rd May. If possible please make payment by cheque rather than cash.

The annual 2.5m Fun Run, starting from King James School in on Sunday May 9 - normally starting at 10.30am - is an annual event the club take part in. It's a chance to see a sea of stylish black and red striped tops (and not just the green and white hoops of our neighbours) have a laugh and (as ever) also raise some money thru sponsorship.

Parents are more than welcome to run with us and the kids but most of the coaches will run with the children - some coaches will even run the 10k afterwards (and some won't :) )

Anyway, you need to return your entry slip thats on the form (with the entry fee that goes to KJS) to your coach. We will then organise your running entry and running number on the day.
Please get your entry slip back ASAP and hanks (in advance) for your support! Sign up and get up and running.

Scorchers School Community Link Programme

The Scorchers have extended their Schools link programme this year, running football coaching sessions at Follifoot,St Johns, Aspin Park and a combined after School club for Scotton and Goldsborough. We have also had fantastic support from King James, who have provided coaching resources to maximise the sessions.

In all we estimate that by the end of half term we will have coached over 400 hours of sessions, so thanks to all the Schools, but also a massive thanks to our coaches who all volunteers have taken holiday to enable the sessions to run.

Ladies Cup Final Thursday 11th February

We have tickets for Leeds v Everton in the league cup final on Thursday 11th February kick off at 7pm.

As a charter standard club we have tickets at just £3 for adults and £2 for children.

We have enough parents to supervise so older children can come with friends and do not need to be accompanied by an adult.

Again, we can't train outside, but this week Boroughbridge Sports Hall (directly opposite Boroughbridge High School on Wetherby Road on the way into Boroughbridge) is definitely Scottons for training between 11.30 and 5.30.

Fund Raising Update

We would like to say a big thank you to all the parents and players that have supported the bag packing over the last two weekends. Yesterday we raised £757 at Sainsbury’s to add to the £1,137 we raised at Morrisons the week before, making a total of £1,894 towards the pavilion fund. This is a fantastic effort and a very welcome boost to the pavilion fund.

We have had a little bit more good news this week as well - we had confirmation from the Knaresborough Youth Council that they have approved a grant of £1,000 towards the building of the pavilion. Add in the generous donation from Andrew Lyons for his sponsored 10k run and we have raised over £3,000 towards the pavilion in this fund raising push.

This would not be at all possible without the help and commitment of the players and parents and I would therefore like to pass on the thanks of the Scotton Scorchers Committee for your tremendous support.

Bag Packing - BIG THANKS so far and roll on Saturday

We had a great day last Sunday at Morrison raising (we think) nearly £1000 for the club with the bag packing.
This Saturday 28th Nov we are at Sainsbury's Harrogate between 12-4.
We have emailed those who have generously voluterred already to remind you of your slot - but if somehow you haven't known about it or haven't got around to mentioning you are available then PLEASE JUST COME ALONG BETWEEN 12-4. Club Coaches will be be there to organise everything - all we need is you (and the kids in their shirts/jackets) to be there.
Don't be embarrassed. You don't ask for cash - people donate it into the buckets anyway of the kidds smile enough!!! Sunday was actually very enjoyable - and everyone was full of admiration for what we all do for the club and the kids.
It's only an hour or two- and Starbucks do great coffee to keep the 'grown ups' going.

The club would like to say a big 'Thanks' to Andrew Lyons (David Lyons Dad, one of the U9's boys) who ran the Guy Fawkes 10k to raise money for the club. Andy said it was tough going in some difficult weather - but all his effort was worth it as he raised £168 for his efforts. It's great to know that the club is being backed in it's efforts by our parents taking the initiative and raising funds for our facilities in whatever way they can.!!! Thanks again.

The first Scorchers trip of the year was to see Leeds Carnegie Ladies (our Premier League community partner)take on Blackburn Rovers and what a game we saw with 5 great goals, fantastic skills and a number of England internationals involved. It was great to see a number of the players in the first team who have supported Scotton over the last 4 years. We all remember Gemma Bonner who demonstrated how to juggle a football at the Scorchers World Cup sleepover, not only making the Leeds first team, but captaining England at U19 level and winning (yes thats right) winning the European Championship this year!!!
Then we saw Rachel Daley who helped us promote girls football on the stray this year come off the bench to put in a terrific performance. Then of course on the wing the ever stylish Sue Smith Full England International and goalscorer today showing just why she is the best wide player in the country. Sue of course came along specifically to support the Scorchers at our cup finals last season and really made it a special day for all our players. Meanwhile battling in midfield was non other than Sophie Walton (she also has a less famous brother who also plays a bit of football) Sophie of course has been our community player for the last 2 years and has been a real star, coming to our cup final, training sessions and presentation evenings and always bringing lots of goodies including of course that England shirt signed by all the England U19 squad! And last but not least this years community player, Carla (the cart wheel) Cantrell playing up front who also got on the scoresheet and is i believe the top female goalscorer in the league this year, look out for her at Scorchers training in the next few weeks.
All our party had a fabulous day with autographs galore and a photo with the team following the game.

The sun shines and so do the Scorchers at the Bed Race 2009!

The Scorchers friends, families and Coaches again did the club proud on a great day at this years bed race. It was a fantastic day, and it was brilliant to hear all the support for the team during the procession and especially during the race.

Our theme of Bollywood gave some great colour and music plus some cool moves (thanks to Eddie's girls for teaching us oldies the steps) on the high street. Extra big thanks go to the Art Department (Mark and Adele) for putting in a huge effort in both the organisation and the creation of out magnificent 'Bollywood Nellie' elephant float - surely only beaten to best dressed bed by an 8foot Jack Russel!!

Onto the the race. Without Rory we were nearly 8 minutes faster this year - coming in with a time of 16mins 35 - putting us 22nd out of 86 beds. The same time last year would have put is 12th! After the team caught their breath, you may have heard an interview with them on Stray FM.

Special thanks to Sam - our very brave 'girl on the bed' - well done for staying calm and staying dry!

Great show from our Fun Runners today - THANK YOU!

A big 'thanks' from the whole club to all our fun-runners (and the hardy 10k runners) today.
Hope you had a good time, but please remember that as well as this we were trying to raise, through sponsorship of the kids, funds for the clubs facilities. So now the hard bit of the run is out of the way is the even harder bit of collecting that sponsorship in!

Please collect in your sponsorship, however much it is and put it in an envelope with you name on. Either give this to your coaches OR put it in the big box which will be around on the FunDay and Presentation evening.

All named envelopes in the box will be part of a special prize draw in the evening to win one of our football prizes which range from signed shirts and balls to match tickets.

A BIG 'thanks you' to our Fun Runners

A great big thanks to all our players and their families who will be
running with us in the Knaresborough Fun Run this Sunday May 10.

PLease remember as much as this will be a fun occasion and a good test
of our fitness (for some more than others :) ) we are looking to
raise as much through sponsorship from friends, neighbours and family
as possible to support the clubs facilities development. There are
still 4 more days to get those sponsor forms filled up so good luck!

On the morning, please turn up at King James School Playing fields
(accessed from Aspin Lane with parking on road) no later than 10am so
I can sort out and distribute your race numbers! My names' Darren and
I coach the U7s - most boys will know who I am - girls, ask one of
your coaches to point me out. The Fun Run starting pistol fires at
exactly 10.30am - with the 10k starting at 11.30am.

Please make sure the kids come in the Scorchers team shirts. If you
haven't got one in the wash - please badger your coach for one this
Saturday. It always makes a great statement to see all the boys in
girls in their black and red stripes. Weather looks like it will be
sunny so please remember drinks.

Knaresborough Fun Run & Fun Day

Just a reminder that, for the (we think) 5th year in a row, the club is looking for all our boys and girls to run in with the Coaches in the Knaresborough Fun Run on Saturday 10th May, and in the process get sponsorship from their family, friends and neighbours to raise funds for the new pavilion. A sponsorship form is enclosed as part of the March Newsletter (see separate post).

In addition we will be holding a raffle and auction at the prize presentation evening on May 23rd. We already have the promise of signed shirts/balls from various football clubs and even some tickets to see any game at Middlesbrough as guests of the Chairman Steve Gibson. We would like some additional donations for the raffle and therefore ask if any parents have anything that they could donate in our drive to raise enough funds to complete the pavilion in time for the start of the next season, then these would be gratefully received.

Nidd United Dinner Dance 21st March

It's that time again!! The annual Nidd United dinner dance takes place on Saturday 21st March from 8pm at the Millstones Skipton Road Harrogate. The black tie dinner dance is the only Nidd United fundraiser and enables the club to continue to deliver fantastic football for our boys from age 11.We now have Scotton Scorchers boys playing football at U15, U14, U13 and two teams at U12.
So particularly if your boys are moving up in the next year or two give this event your support.

Three course meal with coffee, disco, bar and raffle commencing at 8pm, with free transport to and from the event for the first 4 people to ring Mike Collier 01423 862724. Tickets £30.

Bags2Schools Fundraising - Update

The bags to collect your old clothes etc. will be available this weekend at both the Cricket Pitch and Percy Fields.

We are continuing our push to raise money for the pavilion but at the same time supporting a very worthwhile cause. This is the Bags2School old clothes collection.

Everyone should have been given details last week but in summary we would like you to donate any old clothes (clean), bedlinen, towels, soft furnishings, belts, bags and shoes.

These will be recycled and Scotton Scorchers will be paid for the items that are collected.

The bags will be collected from the Shamrock Veterinary Clinic (who are one of our club sponsors), 43 Knaresborough Road on 26th March. Bags can be dropped off directly at the clinic between 23rd and 25th March, or brought to training in any of the weeks before. You can use your own bags, labelled Scotton Scorchers, or bags will be available at training in the weeks before.

Child Welfare Officer

As an FA affiliated club and as part of the ethos of the club to provide children with a safe and enjoyable environment to play football, Scotton Scorchers has a committee member, Ian Pollock, responsible for Child Welfare, under the title Club Welfare Officer (CWO).

From next season it will be necessary for the CWO to have a minimum level of additional training and CRB checking. Ian already acts as treasurer and merchandise secretary as well as being a coach and very active member of the committee. Last year it was decided that as a result of the additional training needed then we should appoint a new dedicated CWO.

Therefore I am appealing for a volunteer to undertake this role for Scotton Scorchers.

If you are interested then please any member of the committee (Mike Baker, Mike Collier, Simon Lockwood, Ian Pollock, Richard Topham and Wayne Latimer) know as soon as possible.

The two key responsibilities are:

a. To be clear about the club's responsibilities when running activities for children and young people. This involves:

• Ensuring these responsibilities are well understood by others
• Working with the Youth League Welfare Officer (YLWO)
• Working with your CFA Welfare Officer
• Promoting The FA's Respect programme and helping to develop best-practice processes

b. To help club personnel understand what their 'duty of care' towards children and young people actually means and entails on a day-to-day basis

The FA's Safeguarding Children strategy is underpinned by the principle that Safeguarding Children is everyone's responsibility. The appointment of a welfare officer in all clubs and leagues with youth teams is a fundamental part of this strategy which has three main elements:

• Getting only the right people involved
• Creating a safe environment
• Promoting clear systems to deal with any concerns

In practice this means attending the required training course, the monthly committee meetings as a committee member, taking ownership of the process for CRB checking all coaches and assistant coaches, and being the point of contact for any child or parent to raise any concerns that they have about child welfare or safety when connected to the club.

Fund Raising Coming Up!!!

We have two fundraising events coming up, look out for the flyers at training:

Turn your rags into riches.

We need your old clothes bedlinen, towels, belts bags shoes etc (clean) these can all be recycled. If you have any of these items and would like to help us please drop them off at Shamrock Veterinary Clinic 43 Knaresborough Road, Harrogate between 23rd and 25th March.
Alternatively items may be dropped off at Rosslyn House New Road Scotton on Saturday 21st March or brought to football training that week. A plastic bag for the clothes will also be available at football training otherwise an ordinary bin bag will do.

Coffee Morning 28th February at Scotton Cricket Club

Some of our U14 girls and friends are planning a coffee morning to raise funds for Comic Relief with a donation to Scotton Scorchers. Please support the event which starts at 10am. There will be hot and cold drinks, cakes and biscuits and there will also be a swap shop so please bring any toys or clothes that you may wish to swap.

Fun Day and Prize Giving - 23rd May 2009

As a result of the girls cup final dates being arranged on 16th May 2009 (which we hope to have a number of squads involved in), it was decided to hold the fun day event the week later than normal, on the 23rd. The 23rd is however the start of half term and may mean that several people are away. If you CANNOT make the 23rd could you please let me know by 21st February so that we can make a decision on whether we need to find an alternative to the 23rd May, which is the date that we currently have booked.

A big thank you to everyone that helped with eiether the bag packing at ASDA or the collection at the fireworks in Knaresborough - and a DOUBLE thank you if you helped us with both!

The effort put in seems to have been well worth while with early counts looking like we collected in the region of £1700 over the weekend - all of which goes straight into the Clubhouse funds.

Thanks again. The Scorchers exists solely for the kids, and your subs allow us to continue to pay the Club bills. However, supporting events like is so important in making sure we can give them a bit extra and provide the best facilities now and in the future.

Weekend Fundraising Ph2 - Fireworks Collection Sunday Evening Dec 7

Phase 2 of 'Operation Fundraising' will swing into action Sunday Evening. We have been granted the license to collect at the Edwardian Evening Fireworks so we need as many Scorchers Parents (and children) as we can!
Please meet at 3:50pm outside Police Station near the Castle gates to collect your bucket and away you go. Don't be shy! We will be there 'til about 5.30 but we are sure the time fly as the Fireworks will be going. Hope to see you there!!

Fund Raising Bag Packing : We STILL need you!!

Squad coaches will be inviting all kids (and their parents or other aduts) with this
years fundraising bag-pack - this time at Asda, Harrogate.

We have some attendees confirmed but we need more!! It's just and hour and a half of your time!

Last years at Morrison's was very successful thanks to the help of all
our parents and kids who participated, and this year - as we are iin
the run up to Christmas - we hope to do even better!!!

We have been granted free run of Asda on Saturday Dec 6th- starting
after training, and we will be grouping squads together during the day
to cover as many tills as we can.

Times are:
11-30 - to 1 - u7 and u9 boys
1 - 2-30 - U11 boys and development girls
2-30 - 4 - U11s girls and U12 girls
4 - 5-30 - U14 girls and u 10's

However, if a time other than 'your slot' suits - just turn up for that instead - just as long as we get you there

Remember, all funds raised go towards getting a permanent club house for the Scorchers so it would be great to get all the kids there throughout the day to help!!
Coaches will give you more details if you still haven't confirmed Saturday.

WHAT A WEEKEND AT THE SCORCHERS!!!!

What a wekend!! If coaching and playing matches wasn't enough then our goalkeepers got a fantastic extra treat as they received top class coaching from England International Keeper Leanne Hall. Leanne gave a master class in goalkeeping and kept the children entertained too! Meanwhile just across the pitch a couple of the girls squads got a chance to play against England U20 player Sophie Walton (our Leeds Ladies community player). The session finished with a penalty shoot out and a round of applause and thanks to our guests.

Then for the Scorchers it was an early start on Sunday and a trip to Anfield the home of Liverpool football club, after a tour of the ground, visit to the shop, museum and sit in the kop and the managers dug out it was on to the seasside. The sun shone and everyone had a memorable day. A massive thanks to Eddie Brown coaches and Wayne who arranged the trip.

Trip To The Liverpool Stadium Anfield Sunday 12th October

Details:

Those going on the Anfield Trip can join the coach at Scotton Cricket Club at 07.45am or behind the bus station Knaresborough at 08.00am. We will then travel across to Anfield by Eddie Brown Luxury Coach. We will then have the full stadium tour including the dressing rooms, the famous 'This is Anfield'tunnel to the pitch, sit in the managers dug out and visit the museum and trophy room. It's then back on the coach to visit the pretty seaside town of Southport before returning home. If you wish to go (and have not booked) or if you are not sure if Mike C has your name then please ring Mike on 01423862724.

ENGLAND GOALKEEPER JOINS THE SCORCHERS!!!

Its true!!! England International Goalkeeper Leanne Hall is coming to coach the Scorchers keepers this Saturday at Percy Field at 2pm. Your coaches should have talked to your squads keepers and booked your place, however there are one or two places still up for grabs so if you would like to join in ring Mike on 01423 862724. The session will run for about an hour and will give our keepers some top level coaching, spectators are more than welcome so come along and get an autograph or two.
Or Two? Thats right we will also have England U19 and Leeds Premier league player Sophie Walton with us, who will be coaching some of the girls, so come along and join the fun!!

Last Chance To Go On The Club Trip To Anfield!!!

The club are taking a trip to Anfield On Sunday the 12th October. It's a full day out,trip to the stadium, museum, sit in the famous Liverpool dug out and see the trophies that make Liverpool one of the greatest football teams in the World. After the stadium tour (included in the price) its on to the coast for a visit to the pretty seaside resort of Southport (weather permitting).
