A Scorching Day at the Knaresborough Bed Race

On the hottest day of the year so far, the coaches took part for the first time in the Great Knaresborough Bed Race. Dressed at the gang from Grease, with the bed made up as Greased Lightening, we paraded in out finary passed big crowds and down to the starting point at Conyingham Hall.

Starting midway in a 60 bed field, the Scorchers soon overtook a number of beds on the way to 'the hill'. However, the incline, the temparatures (and severe hay fever) took a hold and the expected burst of speed from the marketplace down to Bond End had to be limited, losing ground to a couple of other teams. Approaching the river crossing, and with a second wind, we re-took another team, and eventually crossed the line in a respectable 21m30s.
