Mixed fortunes but entertaining matches for Scorchers Boys in first fixtures this season

The years first competitive football kicked off on Saturday with all squads playing away at Hampsthwaite, with additional matches for some of out U11s at Tadcaster.

First, the U7, who came out narrow victors in a massively entertaining 5-7 scoreline. However, the efforts in this league match took it out of them and Hampsthwaite had their revenge winning 10-0 in the following friendly.

The U9 showed skill and spirit in their league fixture, emerging as narrow 0-2 winners, with two goals from 'Action' Jackson, with Charlie Phillips keeping a clean sheet at the other end. The scoreline was reversed in the friendly, despite some solid defending, with Hampsthwaite scoring a couple past a very unlucky Danny Bradshaw, who had a great performance in goal for the Scorchers in the second half.

The U11, by general concensus, played some of the best football a Scorchers team have played, and were incredibly unlucky to concede a late goal, meaning they narrowly lost in the league to Hampsthwaite 4-3. The following friendly, again went against the Scorchers.

A big U11 squad this year meant another team took a trip to get some valuable match practice in against a strong Tadcaster outfit, and despite some excellent play, went down in both of the games played.
