Girls U12 - Improvement Continues In Cup Clash

Todays Cup match was an exciting game for the Scorchers girls, who gave everything they had in their strongest performance of the season. The Pannal Sports coach and a number of parents commented on how much improvement there had been since our earlier league meeting. In the first 20 minutes the game was on a knife edge with neither team being able to find a way to goal. Player of the day Haley pulling off a number of fine saves and Olivia, making a number of attacking runs leading to goalscoring opportunities. Just as it was looking like a nil nil half time draw Pannal found a way through, the Scorchers having to quickly reorganise after a forced substitution and then as the seconds ticked down, an excellent interception lead to Pannal's second. In the second half with Scorchers playing down hill they created a number of half chances but more importantly kept Pannal at bay. With Caitlin through on goal a last minute challenge in the penalty box scrambled the ball away, when on another day a penalty may have been given. Emily and Imogen in defence and now Olivia in goal played some great defensive football, and Shannon, Kayleigh and Caitlin worked incredibly hard in midfield, succesfully getting the ball to Haley in front of goal but that elusive goal wouldnt come. As energy levels ran low and Pannal stepped up the pressure in the last 5 minutes 2 more goals went in leaving the final scoreline Pannal 4 Scotton 0.
