Girls - U12 Unbeaten Railway Go Top Of The League
The Scorchers girls put in a battling performance in this league clash with unbeaten Railway. Railway came to Scotton without some of their strongest players from last season having lost them to non other than Leeds United! Nevertheless Railway still have a formidable team. The game kicked off with Scorchers having the better of the early exchanges, but a forced change gave Railway the opportunity to grab two quick goals. The game remained competetive with Olivia and Kayleigh making attacking runs and Shannon looking lively both going forward and defensively. A quick through ball from midfield was then pounced on by Hayley who coolly strode forward and stroked the ball in to the back of the net, giving scorchers a deserved goal and putting them right back in the game. Just before half time Philippa pulled off a tremendous save when it looked a certain goal. In the second half the game remained close with Melissa growing in confidence first in midfield and then in defence making important interceptions. Abbie made some great attacking runs and also got in some good touches. Railway grabbed a third goal but scorchers came back Hayley hitting the post when a goal looked certain, Scorchers defending brilliantly with Emily looking confident throughout. In the final 5 minutes Railways experience and energy finally paid dividends with three quick goals rounding off the game. Thanks To Eddie for some fine refereeing and to the Mum's for the now famous bacon sandwiches.
