Late late strike saves Scorchers

SCOTTON SCORCHERS U10'S 1
OLD MODERNIANS 1

A last minute goal by ace striker Georgia Thompson saved Scorchers' Girls from defeat in a thrilling home encounter witnessed by a large crowd of enthralled supporterts at the cricket ground.
A rusty looking Scorchers side conceded a sloppy early goal and could have been easily two or three down if not for goalkeeping heroics from player of the match Jayde Latimer. Scorchers managed to hold but were dealt a blow when Mollie had to come off with a sore ankle. She was replaced by Hannah for her first start. Gradually as the first half wore on Scotton fought back and forced several saves from the Modernians keeper.
In the second half Scotton continued the pressure and Kirstie, Georgia and Georgie came close. Fine runs from Josie panicked the Modernians defence and new starter Hannah played with heart in defence with the steady Ellie who turned in another solid defensive display. However, all the pressure came to naught and occasionally Scotton were caught on the counter attack and saved from certain defeat by some exceptional saves from Jayde Latimer. The Scorchers were unlucky when they were denied a strong penalty decision late on but Daisy Cooper kept the team moving forward. And with less than a minute left Georgia Thompson broke through the tough tackling Modernian defence and slotted home a much deserved equaliser.
This was certainly a thriller from the top two sides in the league and the return encounter is eagerly awaited.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH : JAYDE LATIMER.
