The Scorchers girls kicked their season off in style playing Harrogate Railways U10 development team. Scotton took a grip on the game from the kick off and limited Railway to some counter attacks. However Railway who were fielding a number of new players held out well defending with real determination.
Scotton were soon able to push hardworking midfield players Kayleigh and Rebecca forward to join the attack and the added numbers finally broke through the Railway defence. Kayleigh scoring three goals (yes three goals!!!) in the first half. With Josie also threatening to score and Kirsty covering every blade of grass the home team were left defending in numbers. They did break away and got some shots on target but only on the odd occasion with Hayley never looking in trouble.
The defence of Georgi and Ellie won most of the tussles and Ellie also had time for a shot at goal. Scorchers at half time then brought on a whole new team, with Ellie going in goal. Now playing up hill scorchers found themselves under pressure but defenders Philipa, Emily, and Melissa coped well. Ellie was called on to make a couple of saves which she coped well with and her distribution was excellent. Abi and Mollie W battled hard in midfield and supported Georgia who hit two fine goals to leave the final scoreline Scorchers 5 Railway 0.
The referee was excellent and the game was played with great sportsmanship. A home game will be arranged for later in the season.
