Girls U9's - Scorchers Team Work Wins The Day!

The first of our three planned tournaments took place on Saturday. Due to league commitments the event took place with just the Scorchers and Harrogate Railway participating, nevertheless an enjoyable morning was enjoyed by all.Three matches were played to ensure all the girls including our very youngest got a real run out.
Match 1. Got off to a dramatic start with Railway scoring a cracking first goal beating the scorchers defence, flying in to the net past Jade's left hand side. However the scorchers, picked themselves up and came straight back at Railway, with Kirstie dribbling round the Railway defence to get the equaliser. Jade pulled off save after save as Railway threatened and in the final minutes Scorchers got the winner with Kirstie, hitting her second.
Match 2. With Jade off with a twisted ankle Daisy went in goal, as the match progressed the drama increased as first Josie (Stitch) then Mollie (exhaustion) went off. Fortunately Scorchers had grabbed a 2 goal lead through Rebecca Stockman and Kirstie. Battling on with no more subs to use, Scorchers temporarily went down to 5 girls, Luckily Rebecca C had brought a shirt and found herself on the pitch, the girls continued battling with Emma C and Rhiannon playing their best games to date in defence, supported by the irrepressible Rebecca S. Then with only 6 players on the girls took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored a further three goals!!! Rebecca C tapping in from close range and a further 2 from Kirstie, Jade bravely coming back on in the final minutes.
Match 3. With injuries sorted and Jade back in goal Scorchers finished the third game in style. With Josie tip toeing round player after player and getting crosses in and shots on goal too, the chances kept on coming with Mollie hitting 2 goals and you guessed it a further 2 from Kirstie. A great team effort from the girls with everyone playing well. The games were all well refereed and our thanks go to Railway for hosting the games. Dont forget training at the village hall next Saturday (29th) at 10 am.
