Scorchers beat Old Mods!

Old Modernians U10's 1
Scotton Scorchers U10's 2

Scorchers U10's produced their best ever performance by defeating a class Old Mods side away in Leeds. The win takes them to three points behind Old Mods with two games in hand against bottom placed Killinghall Nomads.

The match was a terrific encounter with both sides evenly matched throughout. Scotton went ahead early on in the first half when Georgie cleverly scored by using the outside of her foot to beat the keeper. The game was pretty much end to end from then on but the defence of Hannah and Ellie was superb. Just before the break Old Mods took a quick corner and the rebound was powerfully hit home catching Jayde in the face and causing her to leave the field. With Daisy in goal and Mollie hastily brought on Scorchers managed to hold out until half time.

In the second half with Jayde back in goal Scotton pressure led to a second coolly taken Georgie goal. But the Old Mods were not giving up and piled on the pressure with the occasional Scotton breaks easing the tension. During the second half captain Georgia seemed to be everywhere - breaking up attacks in defence and leading charges out of it. Daisy and Georgie also kept up the pressure but the last ten minutes seemed to go on forever with Old Mods trying their best for an equaliser. At last the ref called time and the girls celebrated their great win.

Player of the match - Georgia Thompson.

John would like to thank the parents of our girls who provided excellent support in this thriller.

In the friendly afterwards the Scotton girls who patiently sat the league match out or were used as subs gave Old Mods another good game and came away with a creditable 0-0 draw. Well done girls!
